Welcome to the wiki about Israel and Its Army. We will discuss lots of relevant issues that apply to both our braves soldiers and Jews around the world. Add your opinions, thoughts, videos, images, etc!
Graduation of Kfir Brigade
In the month of February, Jconnecters have been studying different Contemporary Jewish Issues that involve the IDF and the Land of Israel. What's it like being a soldier in a Jewish army? What are some advantages and disadvantages? When have we had a Jewish army before? Students viewed clips such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=sezF3GN09jA, which show some of the bonding and comforting aspects of being in a Jewish army. Clip is called 'Miracles in Gaza,' (Not every unit had the same good fortune, but we must give thanks for those that did.)
We also reviewed various peace treaties Israel has signed or almost signed over the last 2000 years, and debated which ones have been more worthwhile than others. Students discussed the mutual benefit in expressing hospitality to Lone Soldiers, military ethical issues involving soldiers refusing orders, keeping Shabbat in the army, and other religious and moral dilemmas.
JconnecT Session Feb 13, 2011:
Thank you also to Mrs. Shifra Shachar, founder of 'Bayit Cham Le'chol Chayal, A Warm Home for Every Soldier,' which matches adoptive families to Lone Soldiers serving, often in combat units, with no one to do their laundry or provide a warm bed, a comforting ear and some homemade food on their weekends off. How can we help? Shifra suggested sending neck warmers, as it does get cold during nighttime patrols and for some reason, neck warmers are hard to come by in Israel. Jconnecters immediately went on the lookout and Shifra has received a few so far. Keep them coming!
JconnecT Session March 6, 2011: Sgt. Zeevi Wruble, pictured at the top (pinning decoration on soldier) addressed JconnecT students on March 6, 2011, addressing different instances soldiers refused orders in the IDF and what were the consequences. He also walked students through a step by step training of a commander in the IDF KFIR Brigade. Check out Zeevi's IDF photos here!
Thank you, Zeevi, for sharing your experiences. The students LOVED it!
